Uniplaces is open to anyone moving to a new city for study, an internship or work — not just full-time university students. The one condition that applies to everyone is age: you must be of legal age to sign a tenancy agreement in the country where the accommodation is located.
Who is eligible to book?
Uniplaces was built for students and young professionals relocating to a new city for a short or medium-term stay — the platform minimum is 28 days. The following groups can all book on the platform:
- University students — including Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD students
- Erasmus participants — one of the most active groups booking on Uniplaces across Europe
- Interns — whether your internship is 3 months or a full year
- Young professionals — people moving to a new city for work, remote work or a career change
Do I need to be enrolled in university?
No. You do not need to be a university student to book on Uniplaces. Interns, young professionals and remote workers can all use the platform.
That said, some individual listings are restricted to students only. If a landlord has set their listing as student-only, you will see this on the listing page before you book. Landlords may also ask for further requirements — such as character references or guarantor details — either before accepting your request or after the booking is confirmed; in either case you will be told what is needed. If you are unsure whether a specific property is open to you, contact the Uniplaces support team before sending a booking request.
Age requirements
When you send a booking request, you confirm that you are of legal age to enter into a contract such as a tenancy agreement in the country where the accommodation is located. This is a condition of the Uniplaces Terms of Service and applies to every booking.
In most European countries the legal age is 18, but the rule that counts is the one in the country where you will be living — check it before you book. If you are not of legal age there, do not send a booking request: if a booking is made in breach of this condition, Uniplaces may keep the service fee as compensation.
What you pay, and when
Booking on Uniplaces involves the first rental payment, the Uniplaces service fee and, where the listing has one, a holding deposit (an extra amount some listings charge to hold the room, passed on to the landlord). You give your payment details when you send the booking request; the card is only charged once the landlord accepts. The service fee is a percentage of the first rental payment and is not refunded if you cancel. Everything else — the security deposit, any admin fee, rent in advance and rent from the second month — is paid directly to the landlord, once the booking is confirmed (the landlord has accepted and you have received the confirmation), and only if it is stated on the listing you booked.
International students — booking from abroad
Many tenants book on Uniplaces before they arrive in a new country. The entire process is online — you do not need to visit the property in person before booking. Listing information is provided by the landlord and photos are a guide rather than an exact representation, so read the listing carefully, including the rental conditions and any costs paid directly to the landlord. If you need a proof of accommodation document for a student visa application, Uniplaces provides this once your booking is confirmed — see How to Get Proof of Accommodation for Your Visa.
When to contact Uniplaces support

Frequently asked questions
Can a non-student book on Uniplaces?
Yes. Young professionals, interns and remote workers can all book on Uniplaces. Some listings are restricted to students only, but most properties are open to anyone relocating to a new city.
Can I book on Uniplaces if I am under 18?
Only if you are of legal age to sign a tenancy agreement in the country where the accommodation is located — in most European countries that is 18. You confirm this when you send a booking request. If in doubt, check the rule in the destination country before booking.
Can couples or groups book together on Uniplaces?
Yes — some listings accommodate more than one person. You can filter by number of occupants when searching. The booking is made in the name of one person, who is responsible for the booking and the tenancy agreement and must meet the age requirement.
Do I need to provide proof of student status?
Not at the platform level — Uniplaces does not require proof of enrolment to create an account or send a booking request. Individual landlords may request this, or other references, before accepting your request, particularly for student-only listings.
Can Erasmus students use Uniplaces?
Yes. Erasmus participants are one of the most active groups on the platform, and the online booking process lets you secure accommodation before you arrive.
Does Uniplaces check my age or eligibility before I book?
You warrant that you are of legal age when you send a booking request, and landlords may ask for their own references or documents before accepting.
