Type your university name or neighbourhood directly into the search bar and Uniplaces shows the listings nearby; then set your dates and budget and use the filters to narrow the results. Each listing shows its location, so check it on the map before you send a booking request.
Step 1 — Go to the Uniplaces homepage
Open Uniplaces and find the search bar.
Step 2 — Type your university or neighbourhood
Enter the name in the search bar — for example, “”University of Milan”” or “”Malasaña, Madrid””. Uniplaces recognises most European university names directly.
Step 3 — Set your dates and budget
Enter your move-in date, move-out date and maximum monthly rent. The minimum stay on Uniplaces is 28 days.
Step 4 — Use filters to narrow results

Results update instantly as you adjust your filters. If you’re moving to Lisbon for an Erasmus semester, for example, typing “”Universidade de Lisboa”” will surface rooms within commuting distance — sorted by relevance and availability.
What if a step doesn’t work?
- University not found in search — try the abbreviated name or the city name instead. For example, search “”Bologna”” if “”Università di Bologna”” doesn’t autocomplete correctly.
- No results showing — your filters may be too restrictive. Try widening your budget range or removing some filters to see more listings.
- Search bar not responding — clear your browser cache and try again. If the issue continues, contact the Uniplaces support team.
Tips for searching by university
A few things that make your search faster and more accurate:
- Use the full university name first — Uniplaces recognises most European institutions. If it doesn’t autocomplete, try a shortened version or just the city.
- Check common abbreviations — “”UCM”” works for Universidad Complutense de Madrid, “”La Sapienza”” for Rome’s largest university.
- Search by neighbourhood if you know the area — students heading to Barcelona often search “”Gràcia”” or “”Eixample”” directly rather than by university.
- Start your search early — good listings in cities like Madrid, Milan and Lisbon go quickly, especially before September and February.
Check the location before you book
Each listing shows its location, and the map view shows where it sits relative to your campus. The location, like the rest of the listing, is provided by the landlord. Check it before you send a booking request: under the Uniplaces Refund Policy, minor differences in location, and factors in the surroundings such as transport links or local attractions, are not grounds for a complaint after you move in. Material differences between the listing and the accommodation itself (for example, a room, facility or condition that does not match what was listed) are — you have 24 hours after your move-in date, the Safety Period, to report them to Uniplaces; see What Is the Uniplaces 24-Hour Safety Period?

Is it possible to filter by distance from a university?
Uniplaces doesn’t have a dedicated distance filter, but the map view shows you the location of each listing. Use this alongside the neighbourhood filter to find rooms closest to your campus.
