My Booking Request Expired — What Should I Do?

A booking request expires after 24 hours if the landlord doesn’t respond. You are not charged — search for a new listing and try again straight away.

Why did my booking expire?

Every booking request on Uniplaces has a 24-hour response window. If the landlord doesn’t accept or decline within that time, the request closes automatically. This is a platform rule designed to protect tenants — it means you’re never left waiting indefinitely for an answer.

An expired request is not a rejection. The landlord simply didn’t respond in time. This can happen because they were away, didn’t see the notification, or received too many requests at once.

Are you charged?

No — you are never charged when a booking request expires. Your payment details were required when you submitted the request, but no money is taken unless the landlord accepts. An expired request means nothing was charged and nothing will be.

If you see any unexpected charge after an expiry, contact the Uniplaces support team immediately — this should not happen.

How to find a new listing

Go back to your search and try the following:

  • Use the Instant Booking filter — Instant Booking listings confirm immediately without a landlord response window. If you need accommodation quickly, this is the most reliable option. See What Is an Instant Booking Listing?
  • Widen your search area — try nearby neighbourhoods or the next city over if you’re flexible on location.
  • Adjust your dates — small changes to your move-in or move-out date can unlock more available listings.
  • Check your profile — a complete bio helps your next request stand out. Landlords are more likely to respond quickly to well-presented profiles.

Can you resend a request to the same landlord?

Yes — there’s no restriction on sending a new request to the same listing after an expiry. However, if the landlord didn’t respond the first time, the chances of a response the second time are lower. It’s usually more efficient to search for a different listing, particularly one with Instant Booking enabled.

If you believe the landlord’s lack of response was a technical error on their side, you can contact Uniplaces support and ask them to look into it.

Frequently asked questions

How will I know my request has expired?

Uniplaces sends you an email notification when your booking request expires. You can also check the status of all your requests at any time from your Personal Dashboard — expired requests will show as ‘Expired’ in your booking history.

Can I have multiple requests running at the same time?

Yes — you can send booking requests to multiple listings simultaneously. This reduces the risk of being left without options if one expires or is declined.

Does an expired request affect my Uniplaces account?

No — expired requests have no negative impact on your account or your ability to book in the future. You can send new requests immediately after an expiry.

What if my request shows as pending after 24 hours?

This shouldn’t happen — requests expire automatically after 24 hours. If your request still shows as pending after the window has passed, contact the Uniplaces support team so they can investigate.
