UNIVERSITIES
Barcelona has some 20 universities, four of them public, of which we speak next.
Founded in 1450, the University of Barcelona is one of the most prestigious university centers in Spain.
Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona
This university is located outside the city of Barcelona, about 30 kilometers from the center, and its educational offer focuses mainly on research studies.
Universidad Politécnica de Barcelona
It mainly offers programs of technical studies and the enormous development experienced over the years have made it one of the largest universities in Spain.
It is the most recently inaugurated Barcelona university (founded in 1990) and is characterized by a very personalized teaching in classes with small groups of students.
There are also other great universities/faculties such as ESADE and the IQS.
BARCELONA - BEST DISTRICTS FOR STUDENTS
Barcelona is divided into ten districts, which are subdivided, in turn, into 73 neighborhoods. The most demanded among the students are the Gracia, Eixample, the Gothic Quarter and Sants.
Gothic Quarter
It is located in the historic center of Barcelona and is part of the Ciutat Vella district. It is a perfect place to immerse yourself in the history of the city, since this was where the ancient Roman settlement of Barcino was established.
L’Eixample
The design of this residential area was inspired by American cities, so it is composed of wide streets and buildings arranged in a regular grid. Here you will find two of Antoni Gaudí's most famous buildings: Casa Mila and Casa Batlló. Something further east lies the unmistakable Basilica of the Holy Family.
Gracia
It is a neighborhood full of students and artists, as well as one of the residential areas with the highest demand for rooms. It is characterized by narrow streets and small squares. It hosts the August Festival.
Sants
Also called Sants-Montjuïc, this district is located in the south of Barcelona. The Sants area is especially popular with students, for its bars and restaurants. The grand staircase leading to Montjuïc, next to the MNAC and the Magic Fountain, is one of its great tourist attractions.
