Große Freiheit 36
Grosse Freiheit 36 is actually made up of three venues. The big concerts and parties take place in the main hall. In the Kaiserkeller, legendary because of the Beatles' performances in the 1960s, small bands regularly take the stage and music fans dance to rock, metal and gothic sounds during the week. The atmosphere in Galerie 36 is quite different: there, people sway to Latin and reggae music every Friday and Saturday evening.
GoldFischGlas
GoldFischGlas, with its long bar and a mini-disco, has evolved into a favoured and consistently popular meeting place in the heart of the Schanzenviertel. Bathed in subdued lighting and slick but casual atmosphere, it's the perfect spot to savour a café au lait, sip on long drinks, or relish a Beck's Gold.
Mojo Club
When Mojo Club opened at the beginning of the 1990s, it was the place to be because it definitively enshrined club culture in Hamburg. The hip hop and dancefloor jazz evenings were of the highest quality, and the so-called 'Dub Conferences' held here, where the people on the dancefloor were soaked in bass, are also fondly remembered. Which is why old and young dance enthusiasts are delighted that the legendary Mojo Club has opened its doors again for more long nights.
20 Up Bar
The Empire Riverside Hotel, located high above the St Pauli Landungsbrücken, houses the 20 Up as one of its two bars. The name reveals the exclusive location on the 20th floor of the building. Even without booking a hotel room, you can stop by for a cocktail and enjoy a breathtaking view of the harbour in a classy atmosphere.
Baalsaal
In Baalsaal, house and techno dominate the sound, but all other facets of electronic music are not neglected either. The powerful sound system attracts DJs used to larger dance floors, but promising newcomers are welcome to take control of the mixers, too. Early birds be warned: the action doesn't really start before 1 am.
Uebel & Gefährlich
The imposing overground bunker on Feldstraße, once a grimy, dark, and underused stone block on the outskirts of Heiligengeistfeld, has been gradually revitalised by various companies. The arrival of the club Uebel & Gefährlich on the fourth floor finally established a vibrant party and music culture. Since then, Hamburg has gained a venue that impresses not just with its unique location, but also with the great acts that perform here.
