FLUL is an institution of higher education dedicated to the cultivation of knowledge in the tradition of the humanities. Founded in 1911 the Faculty of Arts, University of Lisbon continued the project Degree of Letters of Lisbon founded in 1859 by D. Pedro V. Throughout its history, and through various curricular reforms, the Lisbon Faculty of Letters has developed a broad scientific and pedagogical work, focused on major areas of knowledge of Philosophy, History, Languages ​​and Literatures Classic (formerly Classical Philology), Modern Languages ​​and Literatures (formerly Philology Romanic and Germanic).
