If you ask a Berliner or those who would like to move to Berlin, they will you tell you for sure  that Friedrichshain is one of the best neighborhoods to live in. It's a trendy area, which is also inhabited by a young population. In no other district the percentage of 18-26 years old population is higher than here.  One of the reasons for this  is that you can still find cheaper apartments here, although the district is centrally located. Here, two extremes meet: the mainstream and the alternative scene as well as prefabricated buildings and old buildings. Here, on a sunny day, drummers, children playing and dogs go on the streets to the transform and make it an extremely lively neighborhood.

There are also a lot of cultural attractions, as for example the East Side Gallery, a very well preserved part of the Berlin wall. Besides that,  you will find a wide variety of  restaurants and bar, specially around Simon-Dach-Straße, which attracts those who want to live in the middle of the crowd and fancy a drink with friends. And whoever prefers to party for several days, will find his new home in Berghain. The squatter scene on Rigaer Strasse also made its name in the past. And if you want to relax in between, you can either go for a walk through one of the many flea markets or relax in Volkspark Friedrichshain.

Connections

Friedrichshain is very well connected,. The metro lines U1 (Warschauer Strasse) and U5, several trams and suburban railways connect it to the rest of the city. From Warschauer Strasse you only need 12 minutes to Alexanderplatz (S5, S7, S75), 14 minutes to HU Berlin (suburban train and bus), about 17 minutes to the TU (S5, S7, S75) and approx. 50 minutes to FU Berlin (U3 and U2).
