Located in the heart of the city, Lavapies represents the most authentic Madrid. Although many consider it a neighborhood of its own, it actually belongs officially to the neighborhood of Embajadores. It is certainly one of the areas with more personality. Here you will find the San Fernando market and a large number of bookstores and theaters. It is famous for its bohemian atmosphere and for being one of the most cosmopolitan areas of Madrid, as its residents come from more than 80 different countries.
UNIVERSITIES
Lavapiés is not near any university faculty, but that does not mean that it is not a good neighborhood to live as a student, since it has good connections in public transport with most of them. For example, the metro line from Lavapiés to Ciudad Universitaria (which houses the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the Complutense University) takes you there in less than 30 minutes (lines 6 and 3). In addition, it is about 10 minutes walk from Sol, where you can take the Cercanías train to go to the Autonomous University (22 minutes on line C4) and to the campus of Getafe de la Carlos III (20 minutes on line C4). From Ambassadors (5 minutes on foot) you can go to Rey Juan Carlos University in Móstoles in 47 minutes (line C5 of Cercanías).

Demand may be high, but finding a home is not a complicated task. Uniplaces offers a wide range of rooms for students in Lavapiés of all types, from single or double rooms (some with their own bathroom) to cozy studios and furnished one-bedroom apartments.
