London, United Kingdom

Blackwall is a very residential neighbourhood. It is generally a bit poorer than Poplar and the Isle of Dogs, its neighbouring areas. This is a neighbourhood with two very different faces: the Docklands, where bankers and stock brokers are enjoying life by the riverside, and inland where it's a mostly working class neighbourhood. The area is best know for the Blackwall tunnel, that runs almost directly into the O2 arena. Housing in Blackwall is expensive due to its proximity to the London's banking centre in Docklands. You can expect to pay up to £200-250 per week. Most housing will be in either small terraced houses, or in modern newly built apartments. Even by London standards, it's a bit overpriced for most students, but can be really convenient for students of Greenwich University, Queen Mary University, and the University of East London, or for commuting to universities in the centre. It is well served by Blackwall or East India Stations (DLR) or by the Blackwall road tunnel straight to North Greenwich.

The neighbours

Bankers and stock brokers - young, single, cash-splashing. Especially by the riverside.

Interesting points

The O2 arena is pretty incredible. It might look like a weird upside-down wok, but you can catch events ranging from UFC to NBA basketball to huge musical tours with world-famous pop and rock stars.

You will fall in love with

The views of docklands, which are quite nice: the sunset reflected on London's modern glass skyline is one of those sights you'll remember forever after you live here.

The lifestyle

If you're lucky enough to work for an investment bank (or be on your way there!), then it's incredible.

About the city

London is a city where you will never run out of things to do. The capital of England is well known for its famous, iconic landmarks such as the Big Ben, St. Paul’s cathedral, amongst thousands and thousands more. Then there’s the British cultural heritage, best displayed by its impressive architecture and the huge museums.

However, we know that students also care a lot about a city’s nightlife and atmosphere. This city never sleeps! Pubs, bars, clubs, warehouse afterparties, you name it: London has it all.

When it comes to finding a place to live in London, you know you can count on Uniplaces to help you!
