The neighbourhood of Vallcarca i Els Penitents is located in the district of Grácia. This is a long narrow neighbourhood that stretches up the hill from Plaça de Lesseps the edge of Vila de Gràcia right up to the Collserola ridge. The neighbourhood that is one of the highest found in the city, started as mountain refugee for families wanting to take a break from the city and enjoy the fresh air. From the XX century onward the area started its process of urbanisation. This is a calm residential neighbourhood constituted by two areas: Vallarcas, closer to the city, and Els Penitents located in the upper part.
