In the medieval times, Stepney was a village just outside London, but with the rapid expansion of London during the 16th century, this area became engulfed by the ever-growing city. However, in the 19th century, Stepney’s population grew exponentially from the influx of immigrants and earned a reputation for being an industrial, poverty-stricken neighbourhood.
All would change after WWII. The bombing of London by the German forces destroyed most of Stepney, so during the 1960s, most of the area was razed to make way for new council estates.
Nowadays, Stepney hasn’t yet gone through the same redevelopment projects as other parts of the East End, so you’ll still see lots of tall towers comprising these council estates. It’s very calm, and you can always make the most of its park, Stepney Green. Nonetheless, the area is quite close to Bethnal Green and Mile End, which have exciting and vibrant environments, full of gritty pubs and bars.

There are two different types of deposits: the Holding and Security deposits.

In general, the deposit is paid to cover for any potential damages that may occur during your period of stay or will be used as rent compensation in case you leave earlier than originally booked.
If no damages occur, and you leave on the agreed move-out date, your deposit should be refunded by the landlord in a way you both agree on.
