Area Description
Hackney is the central district of the London Borough of the same name. Although the area is not covered by the city’s underground network, its Hackney Central station serves the overground line, as well as having frequent train services running into Liverpool Street station.

Culture thrives in the area, which home to the Hackney Empire Theatre, whose stage the likes of Charlie Chaplin have graced with their presence. The Picturehouse Independent Cinema is also a place to visit, where you can watch all sorts of films - from foreign ones to the more mainstream. There is also a big art scene around neighbouring Dalston, where many studios and galleries have taken over old Victorian warehouses.

There are also plenty of small shops, bars and restaurants around. To escape the hustle-bustle, head over to the Hackney Downs Park or the St. John’s Church Gardens.
